St John Street Apartment

Proposals for this East London apartment centred on keeping the long concrete shell space open-plan. The size and shape of the space is emphasised by a new oak floor with the boards running at an angle to the direction of the space. A nine-metre long steel panelled wall bridges the centre of the space surfaced in reused flooring panels, salvaged from a previous job. This wall conceals the entrance foyer, utility areas and darkroom. The bathroom is a floating concrete slab with a walk in shower open to three sides flanked by rough paint-flecked brick walls and utilitarian white tile. The kitchen is in lacquered steel with a concrete work surface.
