Kielder Observatory

The context for this RIBA competition was a post war concrete pier on the Kentish coastline. Initial discussions generated an interest in the experiential nature of the site and its changing environmental conditions. These ideas were developed through research into refractive properties of specialist glazing products. The idea being that the building could change colour through an iridescent range of blues, greens, yellows, pinks and purples in response to changing lighting conditions throughout the day.
